Human Trafficking

An End to Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is a growing problem. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), it is the world’s third-largest criminal activity. Human trafficking includes forced labor, domestic servitude, and commercial sex trafficking. Every year, thousands of men, women and children are forced into labor or sexual exploitation, by criminals. And it is only getting worse. “Human trafficking (internationally) is a $32 Billion a year industry. That’s $7 billion dollars more than McDonalds made last year.” The Future First Party aspires to eradicate all forms of human trafficking and protect victims of this crime. We will implement stronger, stricter federal laws and develop and fund rehabilitation programs for victims of human trafficking.

The Issues

Forced Labor-

There isn’t just one type of human trafficking. Forced labor is among the most common in this country. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) forced labor is defined as, “threats of serious harm to, or physical restraint against, that person or another person; by means of any scheme, plan, or pattern intended to cause the person to believe that, if the person did not perform such labor or services, that person or another person would suffer serious harm or physical restraint; or by means of the abuse or threatened abuse of law or the legal process.”

According to the International Labour Organization, there are 1.5 million people in forced labor in the United States. “Almost 21 million people, three out of every 1,000 people worldwide – are victims of forced labor across the world, trapped in jobs which they were coerced or deceived into and which they cannot leave.”

What we will to improve…

The United States’ Anti-Trafficking Coordination Team (ACTeam) is a multi-agency initiative aimed at building human trafficking enforcement efforts and enhancing access to specialized human trafficking subject matter. This program will be fully funded by the government. The Future First Party will budget out more money to finance this program. The government has been successful with this program. They have successfully prosecuted crimes in agricultural fields, sweatshops, suburban mansions, and bars. The Future First Party believes that putting more money into this organization can lead to more prosecutions and eventually result in fewer incidents or even complete eradication of human trafficking in this country.

How crimes will be prosecuted…

The current maximum jail time for a human labor trafficking prosecution is 20 years. The Future First Party believes this is much too lenient for a crime of this nature. The Future First Party believes that a human trafficking conviction deserves nothing less than life in prison without the possibility of parole. This will include “anyone who knowingly recruits, harbors, transports, provides, or obtains by any means, any person for labor or services.”  We believe by doing this we can end human trafficking.

Sex Trafficking-

Human sex trafficking is one of the most heinous human trafficking crimes, according to the FBI, and the Future First Party agrees. The definition of sex trafficking, as stated by the FBI, is “causing a person to engage in a commercial sex act under certain statutorily enumerated conditions.”

What we will change…

According to the International Labor Organization, there is an estimated 20.9 million men, women and children victims of sexual exploitation due to human trafficking. Women and young girls make up 11.4 million (55%) and men and boys make up 9.5 million (45%) of forced sexual labor victims. The Future First Party will reduce and possibly eliminate these numbers, by the help of the improved budget and ACTeam.

How crimes will be prosecuted…
Currently in the United States, the minimum jail time for a human sex trafficking conviction is 40 years, if the individual is between the ages of 14 and 18. Again, the Future First Party believes this is too lenient of a punishment for such a crime. We believe that any person who is knowingly “in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, or within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States, recruits, entices, harbors, transports, provides, or obtains by any means a person; or benefits, financially or by receiving anything of value, from participation in a venture which has engaged in an act described in violation, knowing that force, fraud will be used to cause the person to engage in a commercial sex act, or that the person has not attained the age of 18 years and will be caused to engage in a commercial sex act” is to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Rehabilitation for the Victims-

The Future First Party is not only focused on the conviction of criminals, but also the physical, mental and emotional scars they leave on their victims. There has been a focus on expanding the number of safe homes for survivors of human trafficking. The Future First Party has developed a program, to rehabilitate and reintroduce to the world, victims of human trafficking. This program includes safe housing, counseling, medical treatment and education. Not only do we want these individuals out of forced trafficking, we also want to develop people who can enter the world with a fresh start. We want to build a strong foundation of caring for these individuals, so they can begin their journey in a safe environment. With combination of meeting, outings and structural activities we can introduce men, women, and children back into our communities.
